via CCAE LA Metro Section:
The 2017 CCAE Fall Conference was held on October 7th, at Harbor Occupational Center. The CCAE Los Angeles Metropolitan Section prepared an extensive program giving adult educators in attendance the opportunity to
expand and enrich their skills to improve student learning.
“ONE TEAM / ONE GOAL” was the theme of this year’s CCAE Fall Conference, which fostered an existing collaboration with the Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE).
We are committed to work together as one, as we elevate adult education in the Los Angeles region, with the ultimate goal of preparing and transitioning students into the workforce and post-secondary education.
Guest speakers included Dr. Frances Gipson, Chief Academic Officer for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Dr. Gipson gave an inspirational and emotional speech, as she shared her personal educational pathway, as only a
teacher can. Also, from the community partners on our team, Gustavo Vargas Saucedo, the voice of a Spanish radio program on KTNQ Univision radio, spoke at the general session and voiced his ideas on the importance of adult
education, and the positive impact it has on the community we serve. He personally invited all who attended to join him on his radio show to share their stories of student success.
The event was a tremendous success as more than 280 people attended the conference, and took part in 32 individual workshops presented by fellow adult educators including presenters from our partners in the Los Angeles Community
College District (LACCD). All who attended benefited from a variety of instructional materials, technology for the classroom, and educational resources presented by publishers, and educational resource representatives who support
adult education, and CCAE.
The CCAE Los Angeles Metropolitan Section Board is proud to be part of the “Team”, and congratulates the conference chairs, committee chairs, committee members, and volunteers who made this event a success.
