DACE Teacher is 2017 Hero in Education

Congratulations to Robert Torrence of Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center for being recognized by LAUSD Board Member Richard Vladovic and Superintendent Michelle King as a “Hero in Education.” Robert is an integral part of the Watts community. He diligently works in his classroom to support former gang members, ex-parolees, and other troubled youth by teaching them valuable, self-sustaining automotive technician skills, that could and do change the direction of many of their lives. He demonstrates respect for his students and teaches them how to respect themselves as well as pride in their school and community. Robert also received recognition from the City of Los Angeles with a certificate stating: “Your dedication and efforts are appreciated and have impacted the lives of many students in our great City. May you continue to be a partner in our schools, and lead with conviction and heart.”
