Here’s a recent story about one of our US Citizenship teachers and her class:
Ms. Monica Amarillas, who is a US Citizenship teacher at Abraham Friedman Occupational Center (AFOC) took her class on a field trip to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) field office to help her students become familiar with where they will eventually do their citizenship interviews and exams.
One of her students was actually scheduled for his interview and exam the day of the field trip and since time allowed, she was able to to be his interpreter. Ms. Amarillas shared,
“His interview went well, it was a great success. While Mauricio’s interview took place, the class awaited anxiously for us in the waiting room, in hope of good news. When we came out of the interview and informed everybody of Mauricio’s passing everybody cheered and chanted for him. I appreciate and feel very privileged to be the instructor of such great students/class!”
Since the US Citizenship class started on February 6th, 2017 – all students who enrolled since the beginning of the program at Mid City Learning Center, which is a part of AFOC, have successfully passed. It’s a total of twenty one naturalized new citizens and three students with pending upcoming interviews/exam in the next few weeks.
“I am confident and can assure you, that they will have no problem in passing their interview exam,” Ms. Amarillas stated.
